So you’re creating a website for your business and you’ve done a lot so far. You’ve picked a design company and your content is created, you’ve got a good idea of what you want it to look like and how it needs to be constructed after talking to the designer. You’re ready to create the site.
But wait…back up! You’ve chosen a web design company, but how do you know you’re not being scammed…that your credit card is secure and you are not going to get ripped off? Let’s take a look at the various ways you can verify the validity of a company and make sure your investment is going to be secure.
The first thing you need to do is investigate that company as much as possible. Don’t just rely on the internet as a source of information – just because something is posted on the internet doesn’t make it true! Look to see if the company has a physical address, not just a P.O. Box. For instance, Heritage Web Solutions is located at 1460 North Moonriver Drive, Provo, Utah 84604. We have a verified, physical location that we’ve been located at for years and it is a matter of public record. If you can’t find that about a company I would have serious doubts about doing business with them.
Make sure they have a phone number listed – you need to be able to call the company you choose. If they have a toll free number try to get a local listing for them as well. Is the email address you’ve been given with a free service? I would be seriously doubtful of a company that didn’t have an email through their website domain. Heritage has email addresses that all end in @hwsinet.com or @heritagewebdesign.com.
Something I highly recommend is checking to see if the company has a record with their local BBB. Any legitimate business should have a listing with the Better Business Bureau. Heritage Web Solutions has an entirely satisfactory record with the BBB and it is a true measure of Heritage’s character. Checking the BBB can also tell you how long a company has been in business.
